This page contains links to outdoor activities in Indonesia, a physical map of Indonesia showing the areas of activity and general facts about Indonesia. These are all shoestring outings (cost little to nothing).
Indonesia with over 18000 counted islands, is by far the largest and most varied archipelago on Earth. It spans almost 2 million square kilometers between Asia and Australia. There are five main islands (Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Irian Jaya), two major archipelagos (Nusa Tenggara and the Maluku Islands), and sixty smaller archipelagos. The terrain is mainly coastal lowland with mountains on some of the larger islands.
The country’s tallest mountains, which reach between 4700 and 5000 meters, are located in the Jayawijaya Mountains and the Sudirman Mountains in Irian Jaya. The highest peak, Puncak Jaya, which reaches 5039 meters, is located in the Sudirman Mountains.
Jakarta, on the island of Java, is the capital city.
