Accommodation on the ride was an issue. It ranged from Resort pricing (at not-so resort places), to Homestay, cheap digs in Pai, and low end Guesthouses. So your picks probably are as good as mine.

In Chang Mai, I stayed at the Malak Guest House, 25 Ratchav.tee (behind the Sompet Market) +66 81 1792116 (malakguesthouse@hotmail.com). The place was clean, had a kitchen/rooftop area, and free Wifi.
