This is a simple day hike from Seravalle Pistoiese at the beginning of Tuscan trail 300 (called double zero by locals) at the foot of the village. The trail starts at the old road over the pass (above the tunnel that the A11 cuts under the pass). The trail is well marked and dips down and across a few valley cross-roads, so there is more up & down that on the second day hike (Poggio del Monte to Artimino), but it is still a comfortable day-hike.
The trailhead is accessible by public transport bus from Pistoia (about 100m after the bus stop on your left). Not that the village of Seravalle Pistoiese (above the bus stop) has no shops and is virtually a ghost town outside of the summer season. It is also worth noting that a pilgrimage trail cuts through the town. It is not part of the trail 300 hike discussed here (and may be confusing). Again, our hike along the top of Montemango range starts down at the old highway, not in the village.
Total Cost Range of this Activity is: $
The only costs are for public transport to the trailhead and the exit point that you choose.
We started the hike after an hour of wondering around the village looking for a coffee shop and then walked comfortably until around 1 pm for a long lunch break at a conveniently located picnic table above an upscale agritourismo/spa. The only other spot with coffee and snack options is near the end of the hike at San Baronto.

The afternoon hike ended around 4 pm at the base of a cell tower (marked as Casa al Monte on my Locus map) and road down to Papiano and the west side valley of Vinci. There is also an easy trail down to Quarrata, in the east side valley, with public buses back to Pistoia.
All-in-all, an easy and pleasant day hike of 18.2 km with a lazy track time of 6 hours.
