$1 US or 12 Mexican pasos (so you are paying way more if you pay with US dollars).

Shops

The local shop chain is OXXO and they carry everything you need.

There is a large supermarket on the tourist beach strip in the xx mall.

There are also countless malls on the tourist beach strip that range from top-top end, middle and bottom end (think Dante’s Inferno).

Meals

Meals in the city are cheap at street front cafe’s and restaurants. A full meal ranges around $100 mxn ($5 US).

Simple meals on the tourist strip start around $300 mxn (this is local fast food).

High end restaurants are the norm with 2-3 day waits for a table (in the off season) and can cost heaps.

There are also fast food places around the beach strip bend where the young people bars and activities are.

A word about ATM Fees

All ATM machines charge a flat rate of around $190 mxn or $9 US. This is confusing when you see the dollar sign ($) and think you are getting scammed. The Mexicans use the $ for their paso!

Museum

Cancun Museum Maya is a bit old but good for a few hours in the heart of the tourist beach strip.
