Thredbo is an alpine village and ski resort in the Snowy Mountains of southeastern Australia. During the summer months the slopes are converted into mountain bike trails and the the Kosciuszko Express chairlift is modified to carry bicycles. The mountain hosts a number of downhill trails of different difficulty and with some interesting jumps and bumps. At the bottom you have all the luxuries of a sleepy ski village and best of all, a lift to take you back up the mountain. The village main ski shop coverts to mountain biking equipment sales, rentals, repairs and expertise in the summer months. So bring your own bike or rent one.

Kosciusko Summit Hike

There are also a number of walks to the summit of Mount Kosciusko in the area. The easiest is from the top of the chairlift (although a walking path under the lift is also an option). We took this option (and walked rather than took the lift).

Thredbo Accommodation

We stayed at the YHA hostel in the heart of the ski village. It was modern, had a fully stocked kitchen, comfortable and large common area and nice double rooms with shared bath. This is not a party hostel. This is a chilled out spot to enjoy the views, surf the internet and relax before and after hitting the slopes.
