Transport to/from Etna South & Catania

The bus area in front of the train station (Piazza Giovanni XXIII) is a bit confusing. For the Etna bus, you want the lot nearest the train station just beyond the city transport bus stands. This is where the AST buses are found. http://www.aziendasicilianatrasporti.it/

Buy your tickets at the AST office in advance. There is a ticket seller on the bus sometimes, but you cannot buy the tickets from the driver. The office is down the road from the station, down a side street with a WIND cellular shop at the corner.

Here are the results of a 2017 September search on the AST site.

Ticket is around €4 each way. The office is open early enough to get your tickets on the day, although in the height of summer you may want to get them the day before to make sure of a seat. They do allow standing on the bus, at least for the return they did.

There are two buses per day in each direction. The second bus to Etna Sud stops at Nicolosi for 30 minutes. Long enough to enjoy a coffee.

In Etna Sud the bus stops in front of Refugio Sapienza next to the parking wall, by the road (SE corner of lot). There is no bus stop sign so it is very confusing if you didn’t arrive by bus.

€ 4 each way. 2017 prices
